Squier Strat
Squier Strat Description:
Squier starter guitars and amps are the best value for your buck. The Squier Affinity Stratocaster features 3 single coil pickups to add that extra punch to those shrilling leads. Squier, a division of Fender, has designed the Affinity Stratocaster with the comparable quality to the Fender Stratocaster, but at a lower cost. The Squier Stratocaster is for playing blues and rock, but if heavy metal or punk is what you are looking for, get the optional humbucker pickups.

Fender Strat
Fender Strat Description:
Fender Stratocaster "Mexican Standard" is the preferred starter guitar. It has classic looks, great playability, and an instantly recognizable sound. The pickups on the Mexican version are of lessor quality than the American Standard, however they still sound great. The quality and materials are the best value on the market today, bar none.
Optional pickup combinations are available to suit your style of music.

Epiphone Strat
Epiphone Strat Description:
The Gibson Epiphone Stratocaster copy has many of the same features as the Fender Stratocaster except that it comes with a humbucker pickup in the treble position that will produce heavy metal and rock tones. Besides the fact that the tuning keys are lower quality than they could be, this is still a great Strat starter guitar at a lower price point than the Fender Stratocaster.

Pickups: 2 single coil, 1 double coil
Made In: Korea
Warranty: Limited Lifetime Warranty
List Price: $279
Dean Avalanche
Dean Avalanche Description:
The Dean Avalanche is another Stratocaster copy, but cost much less than a standard Stratocaster. The line of Dean guitars seems to be very well made for the price. The sealed tuning keys will hold a tune better than the normal tuning keys used on comparably priced guitars. The sound and playability of this guitar was great for a guitar in its price range.
Specifications:
Model: Avalanche Zone S
Pickups: 3 single coil
Made In: Korea
Warranty: 5 Year Limited Warranty
List Price: $239
Street Price: $175 - $200
Gibson Epiphone
Gibson Epiphone Description:
The Gibson Epiphone Special II is a great starter guitar if you're looking for that Les Paul sound. This is a good guitar for playing blues, rock, and heavy metal. The quality and materials of this guitar are about as high as you can expect at this price range. This is one of the best guitars in this price range considerably cheaper than the Fender Stratocaster.

Pickups: 2 double coil

Danelectro
Danelectro Description:
The Danelectro is a nice light starter guitar with a traditional single coil sound, much like a Fender Telecaster. If you need a smaller guitar, then the Danelectro is a good starter guitar for you. The tone of this guitar is good for playing country and light rock. Danelectro has a good selection of starter guitars in the $200 - $300 price range which have a great selection of tones for playing any style of music.
